Neutering the male dog or cat (Orchidectomy):

- Neutering prevents prostatic tumours and prostatic enlargement
- Reduces mounting behaviour and roaming
- Reduces territorial marking (spraying or urinating on vertical objects)
- May reduce aggressive behaviour
Spaying the female dog or cat (Ovariohysterectomy):
- Recommended at 6.5 months of age
- Eliminates unwanted pregnancies and behaviour associated with “heat” cycles
- Eliminates the risk of life-threatening uterine infections (pyometra)
- Greatly reduces the risk of mammary tumours (breast cancer)
