Laser Therapy for Pets

Green Lane Animal Hospital is proud to offer laser therapy to our patients. Therapeutic laser is a “cold” laser that uses laser light wavelengths to promote healing by reducing inflammation and improving blood flow to affected areas. It is a painless and drug free way to help control many common health problems, including arthritis, skin irritations, ear infections and acute injuries. This treatment is widely used by veterinarians to help pets alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. If you would like more information on our therapeutic laser sessions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 905.597.7373.

What are the benefits of laser therapy?

The main benefit of laser therapy is it reduces the pain in your pet’s body. It’s an ideal treatment after surgery that helps accelerate their healing process. Laser therapy serves many purposes, including minimizing scars, soothing wounds, encouraging nerve regeneration and lessening dental pain. Laser therapy sessions are also common for senior pets who are more susceptible to chronic pain and injuries.

What happens during a laser therapy session?

Laser therapy is a quick and non-invasive treatment. It usually lasts 10 to 15 minutes and requires little effort from your pet. While they lay down, we target their pain by using a handheld probe to hover over the afflicted area. Owners are allowed to be in the room. In fact, sometimes our furry clients can be a little nervous so it helps if owners bring comforting items during these sessions. We hope, overtime, this will be a calm activity for your pet.

How often should my pet be treated?

The frequency of their therapy sessions depends on their medical condition and the recommendation of our veterinarians. Every case is different. When we follow up with you and your pet, we can determine if they need more laser support or if they are all set for recovery.
