Vaccinations for Kittens and Cats

Getting your cat vaccinated is the first of many steps to protect them from catching and spreading infections and diseases. We highly recommend vaccinations for both indoor and outdoor cats. You can start your cat’s vaccination journey when they are 6 to 8-weeks-old. They will continue to receive a series of injections until they are 4-months-old. After this set, they will receive booster shots to keep their immune system strong. To learn more about our vaccines and how they guarantee your cat a longer life, call us at 905.597.7373.

What are in the vaccines and how do they protect my cat?

Vaccines contain a component of the virus they are meant to combat. This introduces your cat’s immune system to the disease and trains it to destroy the virus. When your pet’s immune system is familiar with the virus, it will be prepared to fight off future encounters.

Why must vaccines be given in a series?

We repeat vaccines to ensure your cat’s immune system has a full understanding of how to combat the virus. A kitten’s body contains antibodies passed down from their mother. These antibodies protect your cat’s immune system but only for a while. Eventually they fade away and must be replaced with the vaccinations we provide. We do not know when the antibodies fully exit your kitten’s system so we provide a layer of protection to ensure they are fully covered.
