Vaccinations for Puppies and Dogs

Vaccinations are usually your dog’s first interaction with their health practitioner. We strive to make our introductions as pleasant as possible, even though it is the beginning of a series of injections. Your dog’s vaccine process will typically start when they are 6 to 8-weeks-old. Afterwards, their vaccination journey continues until they reach 4 months of age. Afterwards they will receive boosters to keep their immune system strong. How do I know which vaccines my dog will need?

Some of the vaccines your pet receives depend on their environment. Elective vaccines are called non-core. They protect your pet from Lyme disease and canine influenza. Core vaccines are mandatory and your veterinarians will insist your pet receive them. They will prevent your pet from contracting diseases such as hepatitis and rabies. During your pet’s vaccination appointment, we will explain which vaccines are most important to your pet’s well-being.

What happens if I forget my pet’s next vaccination appointment?

Missing your pet’s next vaccination appointment by a day or two is okay. However, if too much time has gone by your pet will be vulnerable and will need to start the process over again. During this time, you should keep your pet away from other animals. Their immune system is susceptible to infection and they could easily catch or spread a disease. Protecting your pet’s immune system guarantees them a longer life and decreases the chance of an outbreak amongst your neighbourhood pets. Every pet owner is responsible for their own furry companion and must be considerate of the well-being of their community.
