Veterinary Exam

Your pet’s veterinary exams are one of the most important activities in their life. The frequency of these visits depend on their age and overall health. During these examinations, we check your pet’s blood, weight and body for drastic changes. We also encourage pet owners to ask us questions, seek advice or request diagnostic testing if they have specific concerns. Animals are quite skilled in hiding their ailments. It’s important to stay up-to-date on your pet’s veterinary exams to ensure underlying medical illnesses don’t develop into long-term conditions. What happens if I miss my pet’s veterinary exam?

We totally understand when life gets in the way. Missing a veterinary exam is okay as long as you reschedule your next one right away. Bringing your pet in for a wellness check every year allows us to monitor their health and examine them for abnormalities. Delaying your visits can cause invisible or hard-to-detect illnesses to develop into fatal conditions.

How often should I bring my pet in for an exam?

It is highly recommended amongst the veterinary community that pets receive an annual veterinary exam. However, if they are senior dogs or cats we’d prefer to see them semi-annually. As your pet ages, their body and immune system weakens. With frequent monitoring, we can detect the early signs of any medical condition and arrange a customized treatment plan.

What kind of tests do you give my pet during these exams? How soon will we receive results?

During a veterinary exam we will weigh your pet, inspect their body from head to tail and take blood samples. Lab results for blood tests take a day or two. Blood tests reveal the condition of your pet’s organ health and determines if they have internal parasites. If we suspect any other issues with your pet, we will schedule an ultrasound or X-ray right away or on another day. These diagnostic tests will reveal any abnormalities in your pet’s body and we are usually able to share the results immediately. We will call you to explain these results and schedule a follow up appointment if necessary.
